Abstract

The gospel of Jude first published in 2006 seems to be identical with the document known since Iren., Haer I,31,1. It is of Sethian origin and of great importance for our knowledge of the cosmogony of this Gnostic group. It is especially important because of its accentuation of the personality of Jude Iscariot. He is the only real disciple of Jesus who understands him. Therefore, Jesus is handed over to his enemies according to his will. This is certainly not a correct description of the historical circumstances. Nevertheless the gospel of Jude provides a new and less negative insight on this disciple.
