Abstract

Firstly the terms προφητεύω κτλ. are analyzed as they appear in the New Testament. The focus is on the Pauline writings and in particular on 1 Cor 11–14. Prophetic speech is for Paul an important and desirable gift of the Spirit in the Christian community. Through it people may come to a confession of faith in Christ and God. The intense desire of Paul is that all community members (both women and men) speak prophetically, and thus build up the community.
