Biblische Archäologie im Schwerefeld von Geisteswissenschaften, Politik und Theologie

Abstract

Talking about „Biblical Archaeology“ is a contradiction in itself, because archaeology is neither biblical nor religious, but an autonomous science. Nevertheless the close interrelation between biblical exegesis, historical sciences, archaeology and sometimes even politics often creates interpretation patterns, that might falsify the results. Mainly this goes for biblical ideologies, like biblical fundamentalism or biblical revisionism. But also among serious scholars a certain „abuse“ of archaeological data in favor of their own ideas can be notified. Showing up some of the most common misinterpretations in the interplay between exegesis, historical sciences, politics und archaeology, this article wants to promote a more cautious use of archaeological data by exegetes.
