Ascent, Transition, and Subversion. The Crossing of Gender Boundaries in Ps 127
Keywords:

The Psalms have played a relatively minor role in gender-sensitive exegesis thus far. There is, however, some potential for it, especially in the composition known as the “Psalms of Ascent” (Ps 120–134). Ps 127, which has a significant history of impact and reception, is at the center of this collection. Based on recent research on the construction of gender in ancient texts, the worldview expressed in this psalm is assumed to emphasize gender differences. But the imagery of vv. 3–5 is also open to interpretations that undermine rigid gender boundaries.
