Abstract

The Catholic Old Testament scholar Erich Zenger made a significant contribution to Jewish-Christian understanding from the 1980s until his death in 2010. His struggle for a positive view of Judaism is reflected in numerous works, particularly in “Das Erste Testament,” but also, albeit less prominently, in his commentaries on the Psalms. While certain biases in Zenger's understanding of Judaism must be critically examined, his merits are undeniable and have received public recognition.
