Abstract

In Luke-Acts we find numerous references to the Septuagint: quotations (e. g. Isa 40:3–5; 61:1–2; Joël 3:1–5), allusions, and narrative prototypes as well as characteristic features of the LXX-language. By referring to Scripture, Luke intends to tell “sacred history” of Jesus and the apostolic beginnings of the church, that in his mind fulfil the promises of Scripture. Luke‘s thorough knowledge of the Septuagint could indicate that he was not a Gentile Christian, but a Godfearer who became a believer in Christ.
