Biblical Foundations of a Theology of Care

The biblical testimonies provide a series of examples as keystones on a theology of care. In the Old Testament important impulses for aids giving to the needy based on social and economic laws can be found. In the New Testament the focus is on Jesus' generosity and helpfulness. He teaches with words and actions how to respond to specific emergencies. Fundamental to this biblical view is the approach that care is primarily a general human phenomenon that is practiced in everyday life. However, care is not only based on man's own efforts but also considered as a response of mankind to God’s accommodating love for all man.
